The Queensland Pops Orchestra prides itself on its versatility – and never more so than in the highly anticipated Best Of British concerts, which have been entertaining Brisbane audiences ever since the 1980s. The music of the British Isles is ever-powerful, ever-moving, and ever entertaining – and be assured that the feast prepared for 2016 is all that and much more!

This concert series is a favourite of not only the orchestra, but also of our many ‘Friends’ and supporters. Lining up for this one will be a spectacular cast of singers, musicians and dancers to thrill and delight in the Pops’ inimitable, magnanimous way. There’ll be sing-a-longs, tributes to some of Britain’s best-loved composers, a sprinkling of exciting new tunes and perhaps a long-lost gem or two – and of course the legendary Best of British finale, featuring the magnificent strains of Elgar’s Land of Hope And Glory, Hubert Parry’s Jerusalem and the irresistible Rule Britannia. This will be another one for the Pops history books!

Headlining Best of British will be special guest artists Elizabeth Lewis and Jason Barry-Smith, who return to strut their stuff with a glittering selection of ‘Best of British’ favourites. Both very much a part of our Pops ‘family’, these highly gifted and wonderfully versatile artists enjoy an on-stage chemistry that will hook you in for a truly exhilarating concert experience.

Elizabeth and Jason have carved out exceptional professional careers, and have become familiar and commanding soloists on many an opera and concert hall stage across Australia and beyond. Be treated to the soaring purity of Elizabeth’s soprano and Jason’s expansive baritone – their combined experience and on-stage rapport will ensure a regular supply of ‘wow’ moments, culminating in a finale which will have you dancing in the aisles ... and waving flags!

Adding spectacle and vocal magic will be Queensland Festival Chorus and Toowoomba Contemporary Choral.  A beautiful performance of The Lord is My Shepherd from the ABC’s Vicar of Dibley by the Children from the Cathedral Chapel Choir is guaranteed to send a shiver up your spine.

Add to the mix the expertise and mesmerising precision of our guest dance troupes, who – as has become a proud Queensland Pops Orchestra tradition – will transform the floorboards of the concert hall stage into a dazzling parade of colour and movement ... in the most quintessential British way of course!

So grab a flag, warm up your vocal cords and join with us to celebrate the best of all things British.
